Workmanship & Preparation

How We Approach Shower Bases

Cracked polymarble trays, flexing acrylic bases, and older stepped-hob tiled showers are the most common source of bathroom moisture damage in Melbourne homes.

We remove the failed shower base and lower course of wall tiles, inspect and repair the subfloor framing or slab, install a new puddle flange and multi-coat waterproofing membrane, and construct a graded sand-cement tiled shower floor or fit a replacement tray.

Included in Our Scope

  • Removal of damaged or leaking polymarble, fibreglass, or hobbed bases
  • Subfloor inspection and structural timber or concrete repair if water-damaged
  • New puddle flange, waterproofing membrane, and graded sand-cement screed
  • Choice of flush walk-in tiled shower floor with linear grate or preformed tray

Common Questions

Shower Base Replacements FAQs

Can you replace just the shower base without renovating the whole bathroom?

Yes. In many cases we can remove the old shower screen, take out the failed base and the bottom row of wall tiles, rebuild and waterproof the shower floor and lower wall junction, tile the new base, and reinstall or upgrade the shower screen.

Is a tiled screed shower base better than a polymarble tray?

A custom sand-cement screeded and tiled shower base can be built to any exact alcove dimension, eliminates hollow flexing underfoot, and allows a flush walk-in look with a stainless linear drain.

What if the bottom row of wall tiles is no longer available to match?

If your existing wall tiles are discontinued, we can select a complementary feature or contrast tile for the shower floor and lower border course that ties in cleanly with the rest of your bathroom.

How long before we can use the shower after a base replacement?

Once the final tiling, grouting, shower screen installation, and perimeter silicone sealing are completed, we advise allowing at least 24 to 48 hours for the silicone and grout to cure fully before running water.
